Every artistic expression escapes their creators and promoters since the time it defines new moments, spaces and shapes concerning their acceptance. Fugitive creations towards multiple directions. Little can be done to avoid that their interpretation, values and functions not being converted throughout the centuries. Changes and new realities disrupt the meaning of a work modifying it through modeling and fragmentation until giving it different dimensions, environments and audiences. Hence, the previous framework becomes a far reference, omitted, forgotten or even neglected.

The 3rd international meeting hosted by the Romanic and Gothic Emac group : “Fugitive art”, is intended to bring back a quite exhaustive number of European and Catalan middle ages works to their original context. An initiative which aims to awake the debate over a very important cultural heritage nowadays scattered but not lost at all and that cannot be waived to learn better. The right event to analyze a notable selection of works being fled from their time to ours ; transferred to museums or collection all over the world since their earliest displacements. The elusive reality of the art, his unstableness and adaptation leads to recreate the history and subsequent migration of each work, bringing us to find out the different stages in order to face the analysis in the best way. An essential challenge that, ultimately, implies the redefinition of the historical and artistic values for the middle ages works, giving them the right dignity in the general History of Art. The dissertations will be done, thus ensuring a closer perspective to reality. Altarpieces and carvings, relieves, cloisters and capitals, gold and silverware, wall paintings and funeral sets, in short, all the different creations of our displaced medieval art will become the main theme of the Symposium sessions that could imply the European and Hispanic art which suffered a similar condition that led to the exile of so many catalan works.
