In order to learn more about the Museo Nacional del Prado’s most important collection of sumptuary pieces, an international symposium will be held at the Museum’s auditorium on March 16, 17 and 18, 2020. Throughout these three days, the history, characteristics and components of the “Dauphin’s Treasure,” with an innovative museographical approach, will be studied and explained. This is thanks to the joint endeavors of the Conservation of Sculpture and the Decorative Arts Department, in collaboration with the specialist Letizia Arbeteta, and the Area of Education.

Expert researchers from Spain and other parts of Europe will gather to share with their audience a wealth of information on the various historical and material aspects of the Dauphin’s Treasure. Additionally, the collections of the European courts with which the Treasure is connected will also be examined, as well as how these collections were formed in the 17th century, the distinctive elements of their marks, and the truly exceptional cases made for the works in question.

Furthermore, the audience will be given a detailed explanation of the process of conceiving, designing and assembling a 40-metre-long curved showcase, planned to meet the highest technical standards in the field of art conservation. Information gleaned from the analyses carried out and technical images taken while restoring the entire Treasure and studying its stone materials will be made available as well.

The symposium will coincide with the temporary exhibition The Other Treasure: The Cases for the Dauphin, on view in Room 60 at the Museo Nacional del Prado, Madrid.

En torno al Tesoro del Delfín. Coleccionismo regio europeo

Con el objetivo de profundizar en el conocimiento de la colección de Artes Suntuarias más importante del Museo del Prado, el “Tesoro del Delfín”, en su historia, características, componentes, y su innovadora museografía, tendrán lugar en el auditorio del Museo del Prado los días 16, 17 y 18 de marzo de 2020 unas jornadas internacionales, organizadas por el Area de Conservación de Escultura y Artes Decorativas en colaboración con la especialista Letizia Arbeteta, y la Coordinación General de Educación.

Expertos investigadores españoles y del resto de Europa se reunirán para compartir con el público toda la información relativa a los diferentes aspectos históricos y materiales del Tesoro del Delfín, conocer las colecciones de las cortes europeas con las que se relaciona, el modo en que se formaban este tipo de conjuntos en el siglo XVII, la singularidad de sus marcas de platero y la excepcionalidad de sus estuches.

Además, se presentará pormenorizadamente el proceso de ideación, diseño y montaje de una vitrina curva de 40 metros de largo, planificada con los máximos requerimientos técnicos de conservación, y se profundizará en la información de los análisis e imágenes técnicas, en el proceso de restauración de todo el Tesoro, y en el estudio de sus materiales pétreos.

Las Jornadas coincidirán con la exposición temporal "El otro tesoro": Los estuches del Delfín en la sala 60 del Museo del Prado, Madrid.
